No Pets Allowed Policy
To maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all visitors, pets are strictly prohibited at California farmers’ markets. This includes dogs, cats, birds, and other animals, except for service animals. When visiting the market, you may see signs posted throughout noting this policy.
California State-wide Rule: Certified Farmers’ Markets are considered Permitted Food Facilities. The California Health and Safety Code stipulates that “customers shall not bring any live animals into any food facility” except for service animals. [California Health and Safety Code 114259.5].
We understand the bond between people and their pets, but bringing them to a farmers’ market presents significant health and safety challenges. Dogs, in particular, can contaminate fresh produce through direct contact (saliva, marking territory, etc.) or by shedding dander. This poses a serious health risk to consumers. Additionally, the presence of pets can create a stressful atmosphere, especially for those with allergies or fears.
Beyond health concerns, pets can also pose safety risks. Unpredictable behavior, such as barking, jumping, or aggression, can frighten or injure other marketgoers, including young children. Moreover, the presence of pets can distract vendors and staff, hindering their ability to provide excellent customer service.
We really appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a warm and healthy environment for everyone. When you visit the farmers’ market, we kindly ask that you leave your furry friends at home. If you do bring them along, we would be grateful if you could stay on the outside perimeter of the market and avoid bringing your pets inside.
Rain or Shine Policy
Here at the Modesto Certified Farmers’ Market, we are committed to providing a consistent and reliable marketplace for our community. As such, the market has always had a rain or shine policy.
We understand that unforeseen weather conditions can impact the safety and enjoyment of our market. In the event of severe weather, including but not limited to heavy rain, thunderstorms, high winds, extreme heat or other hazardous conditions, we may need to adjust our market hours or close early for the safety of our vendors, staff, and customers.
Market Closure or Early Closure:
- Extreme Heat: The Farmers Market is open from 8 AM to 1 PM daily. However, in the event of extreme heat conditions, if temperatures reach 100°F or higher during market hours, the market may close early at 12 PM.
- Decision Making: The decision to delay, shorten, or cancel the market will be made based on real-time weather conditions and in consultation with local authorities.
- Notification: We will make every effort to provide timely notifications of market closures or early closures through our social media channels, text and email alerts.
